Whispers of the Amazon: Protecting Sapara Culture Through Storytelling
What began as a journey into the Ecuadorian Amazon has become a lifelong commitment.
My work with the Sapara Nation is not just about photography—it's about remembrance, resistance, and reverence. Through intimate portraiture, environmental imagery, and oral history, I’m co-creating a visual archive that honors Sapara ancestral wisdom, language, and dream-based spirituality. This is part of a larger collaborative project—Whispers of the Amazon: The Last Voices of the Sapara Nation—developed alongside spiritual leader Manari Ushigua and Florencia Fridman. Together, we are working to amplify the voices of a people whose cosmology carries the memory of the Earth, and whose territory—nearly one million acres of pristine rainforest—is under constant threat from oil extraction and illegal deforestation.
With every image, every story, I am listening. Not to take—but to witness.
The Sapara are protectors of one of the most biodiverse regions on the planet. Yet their language is critically endangered, and their culture faces erasure. My role is to support their fight for visibility, sovereignty, and environmental justice through storytelling that preserves, educates, and inspires action.
I invite you to follow this journey, support the work of the Sapara, and return to the wisdom that still lives in the forest.
If you’re called to experience the Amazon Rain Forest directly, @manariushigua and @florencia.fridman host annual retreats through @naku.com.ec—a sanctuary and living school in the heart of the jungle.
This isn’t just documentation.
It’s a prayer for future generations.
A call to protect what cannot be replaced.

Mini- Film Documentary
Cacao + Climate Change
Cacao + Climate Change,” a mini-documentary that I had the privilege of filming, which delves into the fascinating connection between cacao and our rapidly changing climate. Witness the captivating stories of Ecuadorian farmers and their firsthand accounts of the challenges they face in today’s world.
This thought-provoking film not only highlights the urgency of embracing ancestral wisdom and sustainable practices, such as biodiversity farming, but also serves as a testament to the power of storytelling and the importance of raising awareness about the impact of climate change on the cacao industry.
